What is in the Book?
In 2020, Mariah published a book entitled, The Meaning of Mariah Carey. Last year, the book was published and topped in the New York Times’ nonfiction best-seller list. Mariah narrates her life and childhood experience thrillingly. She also mentions her siblings and their behavior which has landed her in trouble severally.
Emotional Trauma
Her brother Morgan Carey has sued her, claiming that the book defamed his character and caused emotional distress. Therefore, he is seeking compensation. Morgan says that Mariah portrayed him as a violent person, which is not the case. He argued that he has never been violent all his life. As a brother to a prominent person, Morgan fears that people have started to view him differently since publishing it.
Family in Distress
Morgan is not the first to have such claims against his sister. Her elder sister Alison had also moved to court, accusing Mariah of causing emotional distress. In her lawsuit, Alison stated that Mariah did not provide any evidence to support her claim that Alison poured hot tea on her when they were young.
The book contains her personal life and struggles. She states about her childhood trauma, such as racism and dysfunctional family. Mariah also claims that she suffered abuse in her first marriage to Tommy Mottola.
Fiction Book
Her brother is troubled because of some statements in the book. First, Mariah states that her brother has ever been involved in a fight with his father. She adds that it took twelve police officers to stop the war. Morgan has come out to explain that such claims are untrue and fictional. He claims that it will only take two police officers to separate a fight in reality.
Morgan is also angry with the claim that he has ever tried to extort money from Mariah after she became famous. The public has supported Morgan saying that he has a successful career in taking care of himself. He doesn’t need to ask for money from her sister.
