Running is an excellent way to stay in shape at any age. It can also become a sport that brings out your competitive nature. However, no one can start running without a good amount of practice first. The following are tips to improve your endurance to running.
Become a Great Walker First
Running starts with regular walking. Prepare your body for the strenuous task of jogging by walking every day for at least 30 minutes. It takes several months to build up a strong tolerance to this activity.
Wear the Right Running Shoes
Wearing the right pair of sneakers cannot be underestimated. The wrong shoes are too tight, too big, too worn or too flat. Good running shoes are inclined to accommodate the natural curvature of the foot. Shoes that are too simple will require the runners to put more strain on their feet and increase the risks of foot injury.
Measure Time Instead of Distance
Although your goal may be to run five miles without stopping, you may want to be more reasonable in the beginning. Set up a training schedule that involves measuring time instead of distance. Try training in one-, five-, and ten-minute increments that are gradually increased over time. Do not be overly concerned with the amount of distance that you cover until later.
Rest Days Are Included
No runner is efficient without knowing when and how to rest. For every day that you run, include two days where you do not run and one full day devoted only to rest. On your running days, limit the amount of time that you run and include break periods in between. As you build your tolerance to runner’s strength and endurance, increase your running times gradually.
Do Not Rush
Running takes months or years to master and is not accomplished in a few weeks. Avoid rushing into a routine that has you running marathon-length distances after only a few weeks of training.
Running is an ideal way to stay fit but not suitable for everyone. Runners need several months to train themselves for this difficult and tiring task. Anyone can become an expert in running if he or she has a great plan in place.
