Medical technology is a constantly changing industry. With new technologies coming out all the time, it can be difficult to keep track of what’s hot and what isn’t. This often makes for an interesting time in the medical field, especially given how over-saturated with a choice it has become. The following are four emerging trends that are taking hold within the medical market.
1) 3D printing for medical purposes
3D printing, commonly known as additive manufacturing, is an exciting new technology that offers many benefits to the medical world. The most obvious of these come in the form of organ replacement parts. Given how small and complicated some organs are, being able to produce replacements right on site could have a major impact on quality of life. As you’d expect, this isn’t the only way 3D printing is finding its way into medicine. The technology is proving to be extraordinarily useful in prosthetics production (especially in facial reconstruction), surgical simulations, patient-specific drug trials, and even assisted care products like wheelchairs and crutches.
2) Robotic surgery
Robotically-assisted surgery is another exciting innovation in the medical field. Using automated robotic arms or computer simulations (such as 3D modeling), surgeons can use these tools instead of their own hands to perform surgery. This allows for higher precision and increased dexterity, which has the potential to be revolutionary in the medical world. Unfortunately, robotically-assisted surgeries aren’t always available due to their high cost. However, as this technology becomes cheaper over time, expect it to become much more popular around the world.
3) Medical websites
With so many healthcare companies now online (here’s looking at you, Uber), it should come as no surprise that there’s also a growing demand for quality medical websites. Whether they’re informational websites designed to help patients find doctors or eCommerce sites seeking investors (we’re looking at you again, Uber), having an attractive website is becoming increasingly important for businesses of all types within the med industry. And it’s not just about aesthetics; good-looking websites are generally easier to use, which can make for a much more positive patient experience.
4) Digital Doctors
These days, everything is becoming digitized. And this trend isn’t limited to the computer age; even seeing the doctor has become less face-to-face and more Skype/FaceTime/Hangout. Telemedicine allows patients living in small towns or rural areas access to medical professionals without having to travel long distances (and lets physicians avoid sitting through traffic). For many countries around the world, telemedicine will play an important role in their ability to offer quality healthcare services.
