The Covid-19 virus, also known as the Corona Virus, is spreading like wildfire all over the globe. From the time specialists diagnosed the first patient, it seemed like the virus was on the move. Over the years, we have seen a tidal wave of infection rates as each virus variant comes and goes. Though most people highly feared the first wave, each subsequent wave comes with a more substantial infection rate, causing a lot of panic in the population.
The latest variation of Corona is the Omicron virus that seems to be infecting masses by the minute. This variant of Covid-19 landed in late 2021 as nations were still trying to manage the impact of the Delta variant. Recent research by the World Health Organization (WHO) depicts a picture of the severity of this situation. The data collected states that in Europe, seven million people got the omicron virus within the first week of 2022. Both the vaccinated and unvaccinated were in the same boat of infection. The severity of the symptoms, however, varied between the two groups. Half of Europe may have the Omicron variant within six to eight weeks, according to the spreading rate.
While it is safe to say that this new brand of the virus does not make people as sick as the previous ones, the level of spread is the highest seen so far. The many infected people flocking to hospitals every day is causing a stir in the health facilities and straining the practitioners. Space to admit patients quickly diminishes as Omicron patients occupy most beds. Additionally, critical Delta patients are still in the ICUs undergoing treatment. This situation puts a lot of strain on hospitals as patients suffering from other diseases don’t get much help.
The Omicron variant seems to be a wave moving from west to east. The western nations have already felt the blow, and the eastern countries are now reporting the first infection cases. According to lead health advisers, it is high time each county looks for the best way to protect its citizens from this pandemic. The vaccinations, regulations on interactions, and the country’s resources seem to be the solution for managing the situation. On immunization, Pfizer says they can have a vaccine specially crafted against the Omicron Virus by March. This news, however, brought about such significant criticism from the whole world. Nation leaders do not support vaccinating their people every few months when a new variant is detected.
Most people long for a return to normalcy, but things seem to be going in the opposite direction. As a permanent solution is still not in sight, it is best to cope with the new normal and keep yourself and your loved one safe.
