Staying healthy is essential for everyone, including plants and animals. It’s hard to maintain health in today’s modern society because everyone has a busy lifestyle and schedule. Often, people try to balance work, family, and other responsibilities. However, it isn’t difficult to maintain health. Following are a few tips to be healthy.
1. Eat More Vegetables
People often eat a lot of carbs, some proteins, and fewer vegetables. But, it should be the other way. Replace refined carbohydrates with complex ones like brown rice. Have five small portions of vegetables in a day. Vegetables can be raw, stir-fried, or steamed. Eating more vegetables reduces the risk of developing diseases such as cancer. There are two types of vegetables; starchy and non-starchy.
Starchy vegetables have more carbs and calories than non-starchy. They include potatoes, beans, and maize. The most potent vegetables that have a lot of nutrients are usually in vivid colors. They include broccoli, carrots, tomatoes, cabbage, grapes, and leafy greens. Fill the plate with more non-starchy vegetables, a small portion of proteins and carbohydrates. It’s the easiest way to make the diet healthier since they are low in calories but have many nutrients, water, and fiber. Besides, they maintain high-levels of keep hydration due to their water content.
2. Exercise Regularly
Exercising helps maintain health, makes one physically fit, improves eyesight, lowers cholesterol, and keeps blood pressure normal—exercise for at least half an hour a day. Exercising comes in different forms, such as swimming, cardio exercises, dancing, yoga, walking, and outdoor activities. Choose an enjoyable practice for you.
3. Cut Off Processed Foods
Processed foods may be convenient to cook. However, they have fewer nutrients, increasing the risk of chronic diseases. Eat real, simple foods that guarantee healthy life with less effort. Real foods have more fiber, minerals, and vitamins. Examples of natural foods include but not limited to apples, spinach, brown rice, unprocessed meats, eggs, and bananas.
4. Enough Sleep
It’s essential to get at least 7 hours of sleep. Those who have difficulties in sleeping should practice meditation or yoga. Don’t keep the lights on and avoid using the mobile phone for at least one hour before sleeping. Keep a journal to write down the day’s activities and stressful thoughts to get them out of the head.
5. Mental Health
If mental health isn’t stable, it takes a toll on physical health. Maintain a positive attitude to get rid of negative energy. It builds a healthier immune system and boosts health. Being grateful is also essential.
6. Drink Water
Drinking water is essential for the body. It removes the toxins, maintains a healthy brain function, helps in concentration, keeps one hydrated and in a festive mood. Drinking water helps burn calories. It’s crucial to drink at least three liters in a day. Drinking excessive water isn’t right as it retains in the body and causes swelling.
Staying healthy is simple if one is determined no matter how busy they are. Eat more vegetables, work out regularly, and drink enough water. In these current times, wash vegetables thoroughly before cooking and eating. Drink water with ginger and lemon at least once a day. Cook with onions and garlic as they fight bacteria in the body and keeps the immune system healthy. Take all precautions during these challenging times to avoid being affected by the coronavirus.
