Since 1958, the International House of Pancakes, or IHOP, has been pleasing the palates of hungry diners with its delicious selection of pancakes and other family-friendly foods.
A Classic American Restaurant Chain
There are now more than 1,600 IHOP restaurants located in the U.S., and 99 percent of them are franchised. Although the chain is especially known for its many types of pancakes and other breakfast items, it also serves a full menu of tasty lunch and dinner items.
Through the years, IHOP restaurants have become an iconic part of American culture. With their familiar blue roofs and chalet-style building designs, IHOPs are instantly recognizable.
Generations of teenagers have acquired their first job at IHOP restaurants, usually filling dish washer, bus person or waitstaff positions.
California and Texas are the two U.S. states that have the highest number of IHOP locations, with San Antonio and Houston, Texas each featuring more locations than any other cities. IHOP restaurants are now also located in Guatemala, Puerto Rico, Bahrain, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Dubai (UAE), and Bahrain.
Great Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Choices
As for pancakes, IHOP offers its classic buttermilk flapjacks, blueberry, strawberry banana, cupcake, chocolate chocolate chip and other varieties. Their menu features crepes, Belgian Waffles, French toast, burritos and bowls, omelets and an assortment of breakfast combos.
For lunch and dinner, IHOP offers a nice selection of steak burgers, chicken sandwiches, hand-made sandwiches, appetizers, salads and entrees. A 55+ menu, a kids menu, a gluten-friendly menu, several different family feasts, and IHOP’s famous coffee are available at their numerous restaurants.
Bacon fans will appreciate the hickory-smoked, maple-glazed bacon slices that IHOP restaurants are now serving. Five times thicker than regular bacon slices, these slices can be added to any order.
A Caring and Responsible Company
In February 2021, IHOP announced that because of the ongoing health pandemic, it would not be observing its annual National Pancake Day celebration this year. At this event, visitors to IHOP restaurants receive a free, small serving of pancakes, and they have the opportunity to make donations to children’s charity organizations. This year, the company’s email club members will receive a free pancake “IOU” that is valid during April.
During IHOP’s 10th National Pancake Day in 2015, the company raised an incredible $3.5 million for charity. Between 2006 and 2015, IHOP’s charity-raising efforts totaled more than $20 million.
