Everyone knows that sustainability is critical in this day and age. The reason why it is necessary is because it creates massive value and helps to provide sustenance for future generations. Bayer, the crop science and pharmaceutical company, recently invested in Sound Agriculture to contribute to long-term sustainability.

Sound Agriculture

On the 19th of August, 2021, Sound Agriculture was announced to settle a USD 46 million venture led by Leaps by Baker. The company has decided to endorse an agreement that will unlock the true potential of nutritious food.

Currently, the company is establishing two technology-driven platforms to enhance food production. The first platform is an on-demand breeding ground that stimulates plant traits and promotes ten times faster than the conventional technologies without GMOs.

On the other hand, the next platform focuses on nutrient efficiency. It aims to replace approximately 30% of nitrogen fertilizer usage. With the aid of most modern technologies, plants have access to already existing nutrients from microbiomes.

Using and Scaling a Platform

Additionally, not only one, the funds will be used for the improvement of both platforms and will also focus on the issues in the food and agriculture sector. Poor water quality, greenhouse gas emissions, and poor soil health- all of these have contributed to the rise in global warming. With the improvement in the food and agriculture industry, global warming can be controlled.

Jurgen Eckhart on The Movement

In an interview, the head of leaps by Bayer, Jurgen Eckhart, explained how the agreement can make groundbreaking changes in today’s food and agriculture products. It will also aid in overcoming the potential challenges faced in the food and agriculture sector.

He also added how Sound Agriculture brings two of the latest technologies together in the market and makes the best use out of them. This blend holds tremendous potential in sustainability in the food and agriculture industry.

Recently, Sound Agriculture launched its first product in 2020 and sold it under the name Source in 2021. This product is a bioinspired alternative to artificial fertilizers for soybeans and corn. SOURCE activates the already existing soil microbiome that eventually reduces the need for nitrogen fertilizers application.

The CEO of Sound Agriculture, Adam Litle, spoke in an interview and explained how the investors, Leaps by Baker and North Pond ventures, allows our team to work hard and have a creative strategy. He remains optimistic that the agreement will bring an accurate result that is just the hour’s need.
