Workplace culture is an integral part of the office environment. It has a significant impact on how employees feel about their jobs and can have negative consequences if it isn’t considered when designing company policies. Office culture is often overlooked as an essential aspect of organizational life because many other factors dictate employee happiness that tends to be more visible in the workplace.
These include things like pay, benefits, and job security. However, several studies show just how devastating a toxic work environment can be for morale and productivity among employees who spend most of their day at work–which typically means they’re spending more time with coworkers than they do with family members or friends outside of the office!
Strategies to improve culture;
a) company values and goals- ensure they are in line with the company culture;
b) key personnel- ensure they reflect the culture you want to create and facilitate activities that promote this among employees.
b) office environment design, layout and structure.- ensure they facilitate positive connections between employees;
c) company activities- ensure these align with the type of culture you want to build. Ensure that there is a means for all employees to contribute and be involved;
d) communication, feedback and recognition.- keep lines open (internally & externally);
e) policies.- make sure they promote the type of culture you want and are in line with laws;

i) career paths- provide opportunities for employees to advance within the company. Ensure that there is clear communication about what steps need to be taken (internally and externally);
j) rewards.- make sure they promote recognition for work done as well as advancement;
k) termination processes- ensure this includes feedback and support for employees who are let go. Ensure that there is a clear & consistent process in place (internally and externally).
l) leadership.- make sure your leaders bring out the best within everyone, not only themselves! Leaders should be role models for what they expect from their employees. Provide opportunities for employees to voice any concerns & issues they have with their manager so that you are aware of potential problems before they become critical!
m) diversity.- make sure all employees feel included regardless of differences- respect cultural/ethnicity/religious backgrounds, gender identity.
