Well-known for their delicious, high quality baked goods, the Pepperidge Farm company has been in operation since 1937. The company is headquartered in Norwalk, Connecticut, and it now produces a wide variety of products.
The Real Pepperidge Farm
Founded by a woman named Margaret Rudkin, the Pepperidge Farm company has always maintained an image of home, and a reputation for excellence. In 1961, Ms. Rudkin sold the company to the Campbell Soup company. In 1963, the Margaret Rudkin Pepperidge Farm Cookbook was published, and became a nationwide, best-selling book.
Interestingly, there really is a Pepperidge Farm for which this company is named. The Fairfield, Connecticut, family estate of the company’s founder was named Pepperidge Farm, in honor of the pepperidge tree. The grist mill image that is part of the Pepperidge Farm logo is actually of a Sudbury, Massachusetts mill that was used by the company from the early 1950s until 1967.
Pepperidge Farm operates eight manufacturing facilities throughout the U.S. and has more than 1,200 employees. Here are just some of the delectable products that are offered by Pepperidge Farm.
Breads, Rolls, Buns and Goldfish
A large assortment of delicious breads are produced by Pepperidge Farm. These include soft Italian, rye, pumpernickel, oatmeal, whole wheat, light, whole grain, low-calorie and swirl breads.
Since their U.S. introduction in 1962, the little, fish-shaped crackers named Goldfish have been very popular with consumers. Today, there are more than 25 varieties of these fun snacks.
Party Breads and Frozen Breads
The party breads made by Pepperidge Farm are miniature loaves that feature small, square-shaped pieces of Jewish rye and dark pumpernickel breads. These little slices of bread can be used for tiny tea sandwiches, appetizers or snacks.
There are now four varieties of Pepperidge Farm frozen garlic bread available in supermarkets, as well as three types of the thicker Texas Toast. A line of artisan, stone baked dinner rolls is another one of this company’s frozen bread products.
Farmhouse, Distinctive and Chunk Cookies
The dozen types of Pepperidge Farm Distinctive cookies include the round, fruit-filled Verona, gingerbread and the light, chocolate-filled Brussels varieties. Their Farmhouse line is comprised of several types of thin and crispy cookies, including gluten free chocolate chip and butter varieties. The Chunk line of cookies is made up of more than a dozen varieties that are thick and loaded with ingredients.
Milano and Pirouette Cookies
With a thin layer of flavored filling sandwiched between two delicate and elegant, butter-style cookies, Milano cookies are always a pleasure to eat. While the original chocolate-filled Milanos are still very much in-demand, there are now more than a dozen varieties of these treats to enjoy. The Pepperidge Farm Pirouette cookies are cylinder-shaped treats that contain different flavored fillings.
